Dear all,

As we come to the end of what has been a very busy term 1, I would like to wish all students, parents and staff a very happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year and, as always, thank you for your continued support for the school.

This term was a term of two halves. Most students had 30 days of learning at school and will be having 38 days of distance learning. As we moved from one mode of teaching and learning to another we continued to adapt and improve to provide our students with the best educational experiences. What is really important is that, whether I go in to see students in class or on Zoom, rooms are always busy and focused on learning and achievement and often full of fun; it’s what makes JCSRS such a great place to be.

As always, you can contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about your child and their learning. If you would like to borrow any of the school resources and equipment, please contact our school office (office@jcsrs.edu.hk) and they will pass on the request to relevant members of staff.

While we wait for our Christmas Show to go live next week I would like to thank all the students and staff involved in providing such a great performance. Our congratulations go to Holly Manning, Expressive Art teacher, and our hard working staff teams who coordinated the excellent performances (at school and at home), involving so many of our talented actors, singers and dancers.

We hope that students will be back in school learning together as soon as it is safely possible and we look forward to even greater success in 2021 as we all continue to work together to enable all our students to be the best that they can be.

Jade class students have been busy again this past week with Ella and Harvey distributing our fundraising products across the five Nesbitt Centre social enterprises around HK. It’s great to see our student art pieces out in the community for the public to appreciate and support.

This year the Christmas show is based on the story ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. It will be a video extravaganza filled with Christmas singing, art and class performances. The show is pre-recorded and a link will be added into each class’s planning document ready to watch in the afternoon of Thursday 10th December. Students have taken home their Christmas costumes so they can dress up to watch the show. We hope you enjoy our JCSRS digital Christmas show.

Thanks to the PTA for coordinating last night’s adjusted RSE (relationships and sexuality education) event. Our guest speaker Dr Scarlett Mattoli provided us with an information rich and insightful session on the many aspects of pubertal development and sexuality that are predictable and can be planned for as we all work together to best support all student’s understanding of their changing bodies.

For any family who was unable to attend there will be a recorded session available which will be shared soon via the ESF App. Please view this session for your own reference and do not copy or share with any outside parties. Daiwa HK 50th X CareER RunnERthon Online 2020

Meet the JCSRS virtual running team supporting CareER

Harvey, Mike, Earl, Pia and Belinda will be representing JCSRS along with four Hong Kong based special schools to raise awareness for CareER – a Hong Kong based NGO supporting the vocational opportunities of young people with disabilities.

Our five-member team will be aiming to collectively run 50km over the next two weeks. It’s great to have JCSRS represented in this community supporting the needs of all learners.
