Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

As the second week of uncertainty and constant changes is coming to an end we can reflect on our community response to the events that took place.

As we continue to respond to what is happening in our community I would like to thank all parents for their ongoing support of the school during those challenging times in relation to the health and well-being of us all. Our staff demonstrated a great agility and quickly switched to Distance Learning to ensure continuity of learning for all students.

I would like to thank the inspirational staff who work at JCSRS, closely followed by our superb students who have continued to stay focused on their learning, at school and at home.

School Improvement and Parent Survey

SurveyWe work hard to provide as good an education as we can in these difficult times and we will welcome any feedback from parents on things that work and things that we could be doing better.

We would like to have your input into shaping the future of our school and to hear your feedback on how you would like the school to be developed further. Please share with us your views on the school improvement by completing the survey here.

The survey will stay open until Monday 29th of November.

Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI)

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) is reporting an increasing number of URTI outbreaks.

From November 18th, if there is a new URTI outbreak at JCSRS, the CHP will advise the schools to suspend face-to-face classes and activities for at least seven days.

In order to prevent outbreaks of respiratory tract infection including COVID-19, it is very important that students with URTI symptoms do not go to school. Students with temperature of over 37.5C (forehead skin temp), nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, headache, muscle aches, generalised malaise should rest at home and not be sent to school. If a student develops these symptoms at school, the parent/guardian will be asked to pick the student up from school and it is recommended by CHP that the student seeks medical advice.

We have an ongoing responsibility to monitor absences and sickness. Please continue to let us know if your child is ill in any way by emailing our school nurse with a description of symptoms (christine.cheung(at)jcsrs.edu.hk). Also, if your child has seen a doctor and been confirmed with an illness, please send a copy of the doctor’s note.

Kind regards,

Anna

School Council

The purpose of the School Council is to help JCSRS to provide the best possible education for our students. We are pleased to inform you that Linda Csellak was appointed as the new chairman of Jockey Club Sarah Roe School Council.

Linda recently capped a career as an equity mutual fund manager in both Asia and the US. She has lived in Hong Kong for twenty-five years and worked for Manulife, Credit Agricole, as well as several smaller firms. In these roles, she has most enjoyed empowering investment teams to perform at their maximum potential.

Linda has served on the boards of several Hong Kong NGOs in the governance and finance sectors and has seen these organizations flourish from their struggling early days. Having now transitioned to an advisory capacity, she enjoys mentoring and coaching, from high school students to start-up companies. She is passionate about education, mental health, and environmental sustainability.

We are really excited about this new chapter in the life of the JCSRS community. We are confident that under Linda’s direction and with her knowledge and skills we will continue to make a positive change to the life of all JCSRS students.

These are used for a learner in a wheelchair when they are being moved. It is important that very positive movements are used. These signs are done from behind whilst pushing the chair.

Move/Go
  • Place your left hand on the learner’s left shoulder
  • Firmly slide your hand down the arm
  • Say ‘move’

Points to consider
Tell the learner where they are going before you start.
Use the learner’s routine cues to support.

(This sign can also be used for Back if moving backwards cannot be avoided)

  • Place right hand on the learner’s shoulder, at collar bone level
  • Slide the hand back gently also slightly pulling the learner back
