Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

We are delighted that as of yesterday all of our students are back to school.

It has been really encouraging to see how happy all the students are to be back in school. Despite the obvious different levels of anxiety that we are all understandably feeling at this challenging time, without exception all the students have been re-engaging with learning and reconnecting with their friends and staff.

I would like to thank all parents and staff that supported students’ transition back to school and for making it such a smooth process.

Learner Profile

Since students returned to school they have been writing their Learner Profiles. This work builds on learning that students engaged with during the distance learning and is developing students’ knowledge and skills within the unit “Knowing Me, Knowing You’.

Class teacher differentiated the way students engaged with the writing process of the profiles. Some students made choices using photos and symbols and others were writing straight on the profile template. Having students create their own learner profile is a great way for them to build their understanding on who they are and how they learn best. In creating their profiles, students can reflect on what motivates and challenges them when learning. It is also a very powerful tool to build staff knowledge of the students that they are teaching and to inform learning design. The better we know and understand our students the better we are in ensuring their learning success.

Learner profiles will be displayed in classrooms and will be included as part of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Distance Learning – Parent Survey: Closing Monday 5th of October

Since the start of the new academic year we have made changes to the Distance Learning provision. We are very keen to hear parent feedback so that we make the best possible provision for students if we have to return to this mode of delivering learning.

If you did not do it already, please take a few minutes to answer the short survey linked here. Your feedback in this survey will help us to learn from this distance learning period and ensure that we can do the best for our students in the future.

The survey will close for responses on Monday 5th of October at 9am.

Nut Free School

Our school community has made a commitment to follow nut-free guidelines for the safety and health of all our students. We need each student, teacher and parent to help us make JCSRS a safer place for kids who have food allergies.

At JCSRS this means that the following items should not be brought into school:

• Packs of nuts
• Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
• Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
• Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
• Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
• Cakes made with nuts
• Any home cooked meals for packed lunches that are made from nuts

We will also not use nuts in any of our food prepared on site at our school. We cannot give out any sweets brought in from home that contain nuts.

Parents must notify staff if their child has any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all medical and necessary information.

Students drop off and dismissal arrangements

In order to ensure students’ safety and also to support the need for social distancing we have reviewed the morning drop off and the afternoon pick up procedures.

• Drop off

  We expect students to arrive at school by 8.45am.

  At 8.45am we will close the school gate. This is to make sure the school site is safe. Students that walk to school will still be able to use the pedestrian gate. At 8.45am staff will come out to the playground to support students’ transition and to help them lining up. Around 9am, once all students are at school, we will open the gates and allow any late buses and cars to come in.

  Before coming into school all students have to disinfect their hands and they need to have their temperature taken. All students need to line up in front of the school on blue dots, socially distanced and come into school one at the time. The class staff will be in the playground to support them. All students should say goodbye to parents in the playground as we will not be allowing parents or helpers to come into school.

  Lessons start at 9am so it is important that students arrive at school on time.

• Pick up

  Lessons finish at 2.30pm and students will start to get ready to leave school at 2.45pm. The school gates will be closed at 2.45pm to make sure the school site is safe.

  From 2.45pm staff will start assisting students with transition out of school. We will be dismissing one class at the time to avoid congestion. Students that are collected by adults will be dismissed in the playground.

• Private cars drop off and pick up

  If you are dropping off and/or picking up your child in a private car you can park outside and walk your child to/from school. If you were given a permit and you need to drive in then please be aware that the school gates will be closed from 8.45am till 9am and from 2.45pm till 3pm.

  Private cars will be required to park in the parking spaces opposite the KGV field. On arrival, please be aware that JCSRS buses may also be entering the campus. Please wait outside the gate and only enter after the buses have finished maneuvering.
