42nd Special Olympics HK Football Competition

Principal’s Message

We are enjoying all the opportunities this lovely weather is offering us. Play time outside is really fun especially now we have added a number of new activities for the students. I know Mike and the PE team as well as class teachers are using our playground for learning. The cross country run with KGV running around our schools was another way to enjoy the outdoors, keep fit and build our partnerships for inclusion.

Well done to the 8 JCSRS students who took part in the KGV X-Country. It was a terrific effort by all running 4k in and around KGV and Tin Kwong Road – Mike Watson.

Our library and literacy lessons is an important area of our curriculum. We continually look for ways to make the resources more accessible and interactive as well as encouraging a love of books and reading. Thank you to Karen Carmody for continuing to develop and look after the library. You can see a note from Karen below outlining our new system for taking care of our books and ensuring we all take responsibility for their return. Our newly introduced Shelf Elves are also doing a great job.

Our current unit ‘Express Yourself’ includes expression through the arts. A number of students recently enjoyed an outing to see ‘Dear Zoo’. The show was full of colour and action and very engaging. The event enabled many follow up activities in the classroom.

We were also delighted to have a group encouraging us to engage with poetry. Three enthusiastic and talented young people from ‘Poetry in Action’ gave an energetic performance in our school hall. Karen followed up with some resources for class teachers to use to teach poetry. Poetry is for everyone and the performance reminded us that it can be fun and be another way to expand our literacy experiences.

Today we celebrated Diwali with a joyous assembly full of lights and sounds. You can see some photos below.

Showcase – Silver Class

42nd Special Olympics Hong Kong Football Competition

Twenty two students took part in the Special Olympics Football skills event with a test day and the main day. Activities included shooting 5 balls into a large goal, a timed side foot pass into 4 smaller goals and a timed dribble. It was encouraging to see the improvement between the test day and main day. Well done everyone.

Message from our VP Jenny

Dear parents, it is with great sadness that I write to inform you that I will leave JCSRS at the end of the summer term 2019. Family circumstances in the UK have changed and I need to be able to be at home on a more regular basis.

I am sure I will see many of you during the next two terms, however, I will take this opportunity to thank you for enabling me to be part of the fabulous JCSRS family; it has been an honour and privilege to work with you and your children.
