Principal’s Message
I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break last week. My husband and I had the privilege of visiting a residential facility for children and young people with a disability in Kathmandu and we were delighted that we could give them some gifts. It certainly makes us realise how fortunate we are here in Hong Kong.
Just before the holidays all staff participated in professional learning and have completed first aid training. We are lucky to have our nurse Christine but it’s good to know we all feel confident should an emergency require our help.
Every year we plan our professional learning days well in advance so we can organise buses and let you know when students will not be at school. Note that Friday 20th (next week) is the ESF professional learning day and there is no school for students. Some very advanced notice – we have changed our last day for no students to 23 March 2018 (it was the 16th). Please check our website calendar regularly so you are up to date with our activities.
Students are well and truly immersed in the Knowing Me Knowing You unit of work and teachers are now gathering some evidence of student’s achieving their learning intentions. Parents will soon be able to see this additional assessment on the VLE later this term.
An important part of our work is to share our knowledge, expertise and ideas with our colleagues in both international and local schools. Yesterday Jenny talked to a group of students at Renaissance College about inclusion and young people with special needs. Today a number of us presented at an SEN forum run by the SCMP in partnership with ESF. This week we also hosted thirty six students from Hong Kong Open University who are studying early childhood education.
We look forward to joining many of you at the ESF 50th celebration Marathon and carnival on Sunday 22nd October. There will be something for everyone.

Sailing
Congratulations to Leo Purdie and Joel who came third in the Hong Kong Bart’s Bash Sailability division at Hebe Haven Yacht Club 2 weeks ago.
Bart’s Bash is the world’s largest sailing event, and a global fund raiser for disadvantaged sailors and sailing charities around the world, this year it started in New Zealand, named after Andrew Simpson the America’s Cup sailor who was killed in a race approx 4 years ago.
Leo started sailing with JCSRS for 4 years and now is able to sail much more independently.
Well done to both Leo and Joel for a great result.
