Principal’s Message
It has been an active two weeks. The fundraising Walkathon was again a big success. Thank you to all families who sponsored the event with the funds going to The Masarang Foundation and Feeding Hong Kong. Thank you also to Jackie for leading the organisation supported by Kelly who liaised with KJS. The KJS students provided plenty of support for us and we always enjoy having them come along.
We had perfect weather for the whole school sports day and plenty of support with parents, volunteers and another enthusiastic team of KJS students. There were events for everyone – running, jumping, throwing and some fun activities including sack races. The day ran very smoothly thanks to Mike’s great organisation and the strong support of Martin and all the staff. You can see plenty of photos below.
We celebrated sports day and achievement at our Assembly on Friday. The focus for this Assembly awards was ‘Courage’. Congratulations to the award winners.
One of the focus areas of our school strategic plan is student voice and student agency. You can see from the article below that the newly formed student council is a great way to encourage and develop our students to take on leadership roles and further develop social and team work skills. We look forward to hearing their ideas and seeing them grow and learn with the support of the students from KGV.
In the last two weeks we have held two workshops for students to try coding. Thanks to Carol for working in partnership with Build Something Different (BSD) who led the events. We will continue discussions with BSD about who may benefit from or be interested in further learning in this area.
This week we were delighted to hear that we have secured a place at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre for our Art Exhibition. We did plan on a time in May but we feel confident that we will be ready for the dates offered – 25-30 April 2018. Keep Thursday 26th April free in your calendar for opening night. Thanks to Jenny, Sally and Rita for their success in securing this excellent venue.
On Wednesday some students were fortunate to participate in a Science workshop run by students from Shatin College. Lots of experimenting, lots of mess, lots of learning and lots of fun. Thank you Shatin students and staff as well as Jackie.
Christmas is fast approaching. Like last year staff decided not to have a Secret Santa and instead donate to the local charity Crossroads. We would love families to help support this wonderful charity by donating the items in the poster below or a cash donation to Rita who will purchase items on behalf of the school. Thank you in advance for your support.
We are rehearsing for the Christmas Show of course and look forward to sharing the performance with all of you on Wednesday 13 December.

JCSRS Student Council
First meeting of the JCSRS Student Council is a resounding success.
On Monday 20th November, the JCSRS Student Council met for the first time this term. The meeting was a great success and everybody had lots of fun.
The new Student Council will be joined by four student buddies from KGV this year. The buddies will work alongside the JCSRS students to ensure that the Council has a strong ‘student voice’ with a clear ‘student focus’
The first meeting was a ‘working lunch’ during which all council members contributed to discussion and the following decisions were made:
- Proceeds from the JCSRS walkathon will be split between The Masarang Foundation and the local charity – Feeding Hong Kong
- The School Council will work with their KGV buddies to create a video that raises awareness of life at JCSRS.
- Additional projects will include increasing volunteer involvement from KGV students at JCSRS and exploring opportunities for JCSRS students to be involved in fundraising activities
- The new Student Council will find a time to take part in a shared social activity to get to know each other better.
The Council Members for 2017-18 are listed below:
William Russell, Marcus Cheung, Stella Simpa, Cindy Zhang, Chi Long Fong, Eva Veilleux and Anna Dickhudt
The KGV buddies are Adrian Chan, Kavisha Amit, Abbie Chen and Emily Hong.
Of the pictures below, the fabulous hand drawn one from Stella was delivered to me the morning after the meeting. It depicts the new Student Council going on their social excursion together.
